Vendor Referral Guide Redesign
As a graphic designer at Hinge Health, a leading digital musculoskeletal (MSK) care provider offering virtual physical therapy and pain management solutions, I contributed to a major company-wide rebrand in 2023. Hinge Health’s B2B2C model delivers its services as an employer-sponsored benefit, relying heavily on clear communication with HR teams to drive employee signups. One critical document, the Vendor Referral Guide, was slated for a light rebrand to align with the new style guide. However, I saw an opportunity to go beyond superficial updates and address deeper design flaws to better serve its purpose.
The Vendor Referral Guide equips HR departments with clear instructions for referring employees to Hinge Health’s programs. Recognizing its importance in driving engagement, I took the initiative to fully redesign the document, rather than applying only cosmetic changes like updated fonts, colors, and logos. After consulting with my manager, I deconstructed the original design, identifying opportunities to enhance clarity, visual appeal, and user experience.
The Challenge
The original guide, while functional, lacked visual impact and intuitive communication. I asked critical questions to guide the redesign:
Before (Front)
Before (Back)
The dense layout and unclear hierarchy hindered the document’s ability to quickly and effectively communicate its purpose to busy HR professionals.
The Solution
Inspired by Hinge Health’s brand ethos—that every individual’s pain journey is unique—I reimagined the Vendor Referral Guide to reflect this diversity and inclusivity. The redesigned cover page features a vibrant, varied group of people engaging in different exercises, set against dynamic color backgrounds, echoing the irregularity of Hinge Health’s logomark.
This visual approach not only aligns with the rebrand but also makes the document inviting and relatable. Inside, I reorganized content to prioritize key information, streamlined text for clarity, and introduced a cleaner, more intuitive layout. The result is a guide that empowers HR teams to confidently communicate Hinge Health’s benefits to employees, driving engagement in a way the original design could not.

Impact
By proactively identifying a need and championing a full redesign, I transformed a routine rebranding task into an opportunity to elevate a critical tool. The updated Vendor Referral Guide not only aligns with Hinge Health’s refreshed brand but also enhances its usability, ensuring HR teams can effectively promote a valuable employee benefit.
